Rodney Mullen Uber Light & Tensor Response Truck Review pt 3

Posted by admin 21 January, 2009

This is part 3 of a three-part review of the Rodney Mullen Uber Light deck and Tensor Response trucks from Dwindle Distribution. In the review, I go over the technology of the board, and show you how the gear holds up through various forms of skateboarding (street, ramp, and other obstacles). I tried to make this review as thorough and fair as possible, so I sincerely hope it benefits anyone interested in this particular gear. Please keep in mind, I’m just one skater, so your experience and reaction to the board and trucks may differ. Note: This entire video is available at Google video, where you can download and save it for later.

There are two Small Time Skates, but they’re both local (not a chain or franchise or anything). The one here in Hammond, Louisiana is owned by my best friend Kerry, then there’s another one in Columbia, Missouri owned by a mutual friend named Shane. The shop ethic is the same (skateboarding helping the scene), but they’re separate beyond that.

where is that small time skate shop? it looks like a good one. are there any other ones around except that one, or is that a local thing?

Nah, the trucks I **** were pre-market… they were test trucks that they hadn’t worked the bugs out of yet.

hey man.
i jus got the new tensor magnesium response trucks which are suppose to be even lighter than the regular response trucks. but after watching your video i kind of have doubts about it.
should i worry?

In general, the lightest boards will be the skinnier ones (7.5, 7.6″). To ensure that it’s even lighter, look for something with a very shallow concave (more concave = more wood to compensate for the bend). I know Rictas are a reputable wheel, but I’m not personally a fan of Tensors because I skate transition when I’m not skating street, and Tensors aren’t designed for carving. I’m not saying they suck, but it really comes down to your own personal taste. Enjoy your new set up!

Hmm what do u think is the lightest board… Other than this expensive 100 bull. Im thinking of buying an enjoi with tensor magnesium trucksreds bearing, ricta weels. what do u think?

question. did ur ollie feel any higher when you were skating it?

Absolutely not. Your money would be better spent buying three regular decks than one overpriced one. Even though the Uber has some technology in it, it just doesn’t ride that differently from a regular board.

the uber light deck that i found was 159 dollars, but i am looking for a really light deck, and the rest of the normal decks are around 54 dollars, do you think it would be worth it to buy it?

The Uber Light is not marketed as being ***** or snap resistant… as mentioned in the video, I did give the nose a slight ***** (though it was more cosmetic than anything).
Anyway, if you skate hard, it’s natural that boards break eventually (though sometimes they just wear out if you’re lucky). I’d save the money spent on an Uber and go with a well made, traditionally constructed all-wood board.

i like short decks cause im only 4 ft 9″ so if my current deck snaps should i get the uber light?
